The Corona Virus and Pregnancy

So, how does the Corona Virus affect you if you are pregnant? Actually, as with so much about this disease, it is so new that not much is known. Based on the available information about the virus, it seems as if pregnant women face the same risks as anyone else, no more and no less. Of course, there has not been enough research done to prove this for sure.

If you think you are pregnant, or if you know you are, you should take the protective measures that are being recommended for everyone: wash your hands often, avoid touching your face, and use social distancing. A mask might be a good idea.

As far as most experts can tell, babies in the womb cannot be infected with the virus. One or two newborns have tested positive, but the best guess is that they caught it right after birth. The Corona Virus has not been detected in any amniotic fluid or in breast milk.

The bottom line: if you are pregnant, be just as careful as anyone else. Or, maybe pamper yourself and let someone else do the grocery shopping or any other errands out of the house. Take care of yourself, but don’t get overly worried. You and your baby should be just fine.
